Each calendar page features photos and summaries of key events and trends that developed during the boycott, beginning with the December 1, 1955, arrest of Mrs. Rosa Parks and continuing through the outbreak of segregationist violence in January 1957. Events and facts from the 14 months are listed under each day, and there is a running count from December 5, 1955, to December 21, 1956, of the 382 days the boycott lasted. The days on the calendar, however, are 2007 days, with current holidays listed, so the calendar is not only a historical reference but is also functional for current use. Authorized by the board of directors of the Montgomery Improvement Association, the calendar serves as a tribute to the MIA’s history and unique achievement.
