Ed Madden

Born on a rice and soybean farm in Arkansas, Ed Madden is an associate professor of English and director of women's and gender studies at the University of South Carolina. He is the author of four books of poetry: Signals, which won the South Carolina Poetry Book Award; Prodigal: Variations; and Nest. He is the author of Tiresian Poetics, a study of sexuality in early twentieth-century literature, and co-editor of Irish Studies: Geographies and Genders, as well as Out Loud: The Best of Rainbow Radio. In 2006, he won the Legacy Award from the Human Rights Campaign of the Carolinas for a history of public advocacy on behalf of LGBT people. He lives in Columbia, South Carolina, with his husband, Bert, partner in life, gardening, and activism.
